The Online Campaign Manager & Editor will develop and support the Center for Community Change’s online presence to be the interactive, “go to” space online for grassroots organizers and others interested in bottom-up social change. Specifically, the Online Campaign Manager & Editor will: (a) plan and produce dynamic content for the Center’s website, including original blog posts; (b) plan and execute web and email-based advocacy campaigns related to the Center’s work; and (c) network and connect the Center’s work to online advocacy and blogger communities. This position is for a highly motivated self-starter interested in building creative tools online to support the on-the-ground work of a dynamic organization with national reach.

Key Responsibilities:

o Plan and author dynamic web content for soon-to-be-redesigned Center for Community Change website (www.communitychange.org) and commission and edit content from other Center staff and partners. Author articles about the Center’s campaigns and field partners as well as blog posts commenting on current events from the Center’s perspective.

o Coordinate and serve as Editor for the Center’s online newsletter – coordinate writing assignments, content/story selection, and staff input.

o Plan and execute strategic web and email-based campaigns to further goals of the Center’s projects and grow our online activist list.

o Manage the list of online activists, ensuring data is up-to-date and meets the Center’s needs for both online and offline engagement on the Center’s issues

o Develop and implement or oversee potential viral messaging and campaign opportunities including video and podcast production.

o Monitor metrics and other traffic measures for email and web campaigns and develop strategies to increase traffic.

o Connect the Center’s online and offline work to the online advocacy/blog/netroots communities through networking, cross-posting and other outreach.

o Participate in program and communications strategy conversations to develop online complements to the Center’s offline work.

o Work closely with the Web and New Media Manager to identify and implement improvements to the Center’s website.

o Stay abreast of latest developments in online activism and blogging to ensure that Center’s online work is at the cutting edge.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will be someone who understands grassroots organizing and advocacy and can work with our staff and partners to identify and execute new media strategies to complement our work on the ground. A successful candidate will have worked on several effective online campaigns, from design to dissemination, and have an interest in bridging high-touch, face-to-face organizing with high-tech online activism. A successful candidate will have an interest in developing her or his own voice as a writer and activist while also facilitating and amplifying the voices of other Center staff and grassroots partners.

Specific qualifications include:

o Minimum of four years experience in online campaigning and blogging related to grassroots organizing and/or political advocacy, with demonstrated ability to relate to the mission and work of the Center for Community Change.

o Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise and compelling prose, in the form of blog entries, op-eds, email alerts and/or essays.
o Demonstrated ability to generate creative, well-designed web content and help tell stories through pictures, designed text, etc., online.

o Experience with creating and measuring success of online advocacy campaigns, such as email campaigns or online advertising.

o Some experience with producing or supervising the production of viral videos and/or podcasting in the context of web content and/or online campaigns.

o Demonstrated ability to work in diverse teams, manage staff/consultants and also drive projects on your own.

o Desire to work in a fast-paced, mission driven, learning organization --- which also prioritizes having fun!
