Hi
I haven't been on the scene for a while but does anyone know where I can get a guide/template/ example for a privacy policy and what other legal things should I include in our orgs web site? www.ncnworangecounty.org, don't rip me apart here, it is a work in progress(boy do I need help)
Did try working with grassroots.org but it actually was more trouble than it was worth.
Sura from grassroots.org is great I guess w/just had the worst of the pro bono design people.
Hi,
On the privacy policy, what do you want to have as a privacy policy? I'd surf to a few websites that you like, or you know the orgs and trust them, and see what they say and how they say it. Let their privacy policies work as your guidelines/templates.
On other legal things to include, what sort of things are you doing on your website?
As a rule of thumb, I can't think of anything that you would need, just from my own experience of working on a website.
If you have downloads sometimes people put a disclaimer about not being responsible if the download messes up a computer. I wouldn't think that would be an issue unless you have a computer program that people are downloading.
Best wishes,

I didn't know if I needed to have one or not. At one of our org's mtgs a member complained about being in a group pic that was on the web site so I am wondering. We are just an African American women's advocacy group in Orange County CA that is a chapter of our parent group.
A privacy policy is always a good idea becasue it answers any questions a user might have about how you treat their information if they were to send you an email for example. Here are some examples:
Better Biz Bureau
PC Magazine on why certain parts
Corporate Web Site Marketing (not-non-profit, but good pointers)
SoCalLady,
I didn't mean to imply that you didn't need a privacy statement. If you are collecting information from web visitors, then you certainly need one to let them know what your policies are.
Yes, I would need permissions to publish photos just like you would for other publishing projects.
Have you checked with your parent group? They might have some specific guidelines or policies that they would like or need you to follow. They might also have some other help to offer on the web site.
Best wishes,
