TechSoup blog has some details about the free web versio of Adobe Photoshop.

Has anyone given this a test-drive yet? What did you think?

The new online photoshop is a great tool - seems adobe jumped in before Google expanded the capabilities of Picassa - which I have been expecting for a while.

Another great little online drawing tool I stumbled upon recently is http://www.gliffy.com, simple tool for easy flow charts or network diagrams without having to mortgage the house and buy Visio.

Rgds,
Peter

Sweet, Peter, thanks so much for sharing this great tool. I'm a bit daunted by Visio (both using it and its price tag), but this looks like a far easier-to-use tool and the price is right!

Peter Gliffy looks good, and to me the interface actually looks identical to Visio basic. The only thing I really noticed (and this applies to almost every ASP-based app), is that it's a lot slower than a desktop app... I don't know that my users would put up with this for any sort of complex drawing work.

So before 'mortgaging the house'.. :-) ... you might like to checkout Techsoup Stock pricing for Visio... Visio Standard is a one-off cost of $10.00 (gliffy is $5.00 per month per user, so it's a LOT more expensive than Visio!) - even Visio professional is only $22.00 and contains a heap more features.

Cheers, Don

Is anyone else concerned about where your images could wind up when using a web based photo editing application?

Tim, I think that applies to lots of web-based apps, and is one of the reasons that some of us have been hesitant to adopt them.

Good write up by Mossberg in the Wall Street Journal today (4/17) about this site. Only negative was slowness with large images. Other than that he gave it a very high rating.

The privacy issue could be a potential source of problems.

Any pictures of clients of my organization need to be protected. I actually have to obtain and retain a photo release form for each picture. I need to ensure that I maintain control over where that photo goes.

I have NOT read the licensing agreement for the online version of Photoshop. Therefore I cannot comment on what rights are obtained by Adobe as a result of using their service. I only bring this point to light because it is something that the end user needs to be very aware of.

The same logic holds true to other web based applications, or data stored with your web hosting provider, etc. These off-site storage locations are NOT generally considered safe places to store, or manipulate confidential data, or any infromation that might be subject to HIPAA compliance, etc.

Great point, Tim. Always good to be aware of the privacy policies of ANY web-based services, be it a photo application, social networking site, etc. As you noted, it's especially important for orgs. that have particular privacy concerns.
