I have an out-of-the-box vanilla setup of SharePoint Services 3.0 (i.e. the free downolad from MS), and am intending to use it to set up an Intranet. I've got the basics down (I think), but I have a couple questions for the experts out there:
1) I am looking for an RSS Viewer web part. A friend of mine who works with SPS tells me that it is included in the bigger (and non-free) MOSS 2007 by default, but he sent me that version and it did not work on SPS 3.0. I can try to tweak out the XML viewer with a stylesheet, but I'm basically lazy and was just wondering if anyone had any third-party links to a compatible RSS Viewer.
2) I want most of the staff to have view-only access for most of the sections. However, I've found that the profiles with view-only access to the site can't even view it; instead, they are greeted with an "Error: Access Denied" page.
Any help would be appreciated; I haven't used SPS for a few years now and it's different enough that even what I can remember doesn't seem to apply. :cwm11;
Er, okay... scratch that second question. I was testing with my own profile, but did not add it to the "view only" group. I just removed it from the admin group and, therefore, it was not defined anywhere.
