Battery Situation in IBM Laptop from TechSoup

We just received an IBM 1.6 MH laptop from TechSoup. Machine was in great shape - but the battery is esentially dead. After several cycles of use and full recharge, we get a runtime of maybe 10 miniutes.

I know the most recent description of these laptops excludes the battery from coverage, but is this what buyers should expect?

Just asking . . .

I've never bought any equipment through the TS refurbishment, but I have bought a refurbished lap top from one of the big 3 and it also excluded battery from coverage. The battery did fail sooner than one would hope.

I consider a replacement battery as part of the cost of a used laptop, since you have no way of knowing how the battery was treated by the former owner so you won't have any way to know how long it will last.

If you Google on laptop batteries there are many vendors of replacements. I've used
http://www.kahlon.com in the past and was pleased with their product / price.
