Hello everyone

08-22-2007 6:43 AM

I am new to TechSoup. I am a trustee of Dorothea's House, an Italian cultural organization in Princeton NJ, who provides scholarships to area students and has Italian classes for adults and children, plus monthly cultural programs and films.

I am the self appointed computer "specialist" for the organization. Beside keeping in touch with the community by e-mails we mail out a brochure yearly

With the cost of postage ever increasing does anyone have ideas on reducing the cost of mailings?

Should I pose this question in a different forum?

Joe

Caio, Joe,

Welcome to TechSoup! What an interesting sounding organization. I have close friends from the New Jersey area who are Italian background.

You will find yourself in the company of many 'accidental techies' here at Tech Soup.

In terms of your question about keeping down postage, are you thinking of going more to email? If that is the case, then I think the place to post your specific questions would be in the Virtual Community forum.

There are also some excellent resources on emailing newsletters and the like in some of the thread, and in the learning center. If you can post more specifically what it is that you are wondering about, then folks will jump in and point you to good places to learn more.

Con i migliori saluti,

Ciao Sasha (I wanted to translate your name but I do not think Sasha can be translated to Italian)

Thank you for your reply. Yes, it is a great organization. It was founded in 1914 to help the poor Italian immigrants in memory of Dorothea van McLane, a volunteer social worker who had worked with the Italian immigrants in Princeton and who died in childbirth in 1912. You can read the history in our web site www.dorotheashouse.org.

Today the focus has changed from teaching English to Italian and to provide scholarships to area students regardless of race, creed or area of study. But we are limited by the charter to only students that reside in Princeton Borough or Township.

To go back to the original question. Since the majority of our members ( we really do not have members because we do not collect fees. Our programs are free and open to all. We charge a nominal fee for our Italian classes) do not have e-mails, we do mail out our programs by first class mail to about 650 addresses at lest once per year.

Are there any postal regulations that we can use ( without too many restrictions) to reduce our postage costs?

Mille grazie

Giuseppe

Ciao Giuseppe and welcome to TechSoup! To address your mailing question have you looked at Nonprofitmailers.org? to see if your organization might qualify for nonprofit mailing rates? There's a lot of information on this website, so this might be a good place to start when it comes to reducing your mailing rates.

Best,

Megan

Ciao Giuseppe,

Sasha comes from the root "Alexander" or rather Alexandra in my case. Is there an Italian version for that?

I think there are some ways that you could save on postage, but I'd rather continue the discussion in another forum where more people will see it. I'd suggest posting it in the Virtual Community forum and then we can continue there.

Arrivederci,

:flash; Ciao Sasha

Alexander in italiano e' Alessandro e femminile Alessandra. Dinimuitivo e' Sandro e Sandra dunque Sasha sara' Sandra.

Ciao
Giuseppe ( o Pinuccio o Peppe o Beppe)
