To a certain extent, yes. I pretty much always have my organization information in my signature.
Also, I have counseled clients in the past to put upcoming events in signatures. If that email is forwarded to another, the message goes along with it creating, potentially, viral distribution of what I'm trying to communicate.

What are the design standards for an effective signature?
I have a client who created an elaborate plaxo graphic signature that looks horrible when viewed as text email. People can't seem to grasp that not everybody uses a html email reader.
