Norton Internet Security and CD-ROM drive

I recently purchased Norton Internet Security for my 3 month old Dell laptop. I uninstalled the McAfee trial version that came with the computer and installed the NIS. The computer recognized my CD/DVD drive but wouldn't list the contents. I followed the Symantec instructions to turn off the defaults, but this did not help. I uninstalled the NIS, and everything was fine (except I didn't have any internet protection). I reinstalled the NIS, and the problem is back.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
