Share your words of Web 2.0 wisdom -- and personal geekiest moments.

How do you think Web 2.0 technologies can benefit nonprofits? What would you say or do to convince a skeptical technology manager at another nonprofit that Web 2.0 tools are in fact valuable to their organization? And what was your personal geekiest moment?

TechSoup hit the floor at NetSquared to find out from technology experts and nonprofit pioneers why nonprofits should consider Web 2.0 tools like blogs, podcasts, wikis, mashups, and more. Learn what they had to say in Words of Wisdom from the NetSquared Conference -- and share your own thoughts here.

Web 2.0 is all about community and empowerment. These technologies -- from blogs to podcasting to tagging -- all enable nonprofits to broadcast their messages like never before and, at the same time, build community.

After helping to write and edit so many articles about so many nonprofits embracing Web 2.0 technologies, I've learned that you don't need a lot of time or money to make great things happen. You just need a bit of guidance (from a geeky friend or the nonprofit community), a great vision, willingness to try something new, and things will fall into place.

My geekiest moment? How about my most un-geeky moment?

Some years ago, I was in San Jose covering the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo for the technology magazine where I used to work. I leaned over to one of my coworkers to ask, "What's Linux?" Quite a humbling moment. I've since become a Linux geek and zealot, probably because I was so embarassed about having to ask such a silly question. But hey, you gotta start somewhere.

More so than just Web 2.0, I think one of the major factors is the current environment. There is an abundance of technologies and services out there right now for free/low cost. This, in combination with the openess of the internet, allows for NPOs to quickly and easily have a voice and reach a large audience with very little cost.

My geekiest moment? How about my most un-geeky moment?

Too many to remember... Currently, just experimenting with social networks, blogs, video chats, video broadcasting, enabling people and organizations to be more effective. Having a voice and getting the message out.

Hi Zimleh,

Web 2.0 stuff can definitely be complicated to understand, even for people who consider themselves "techies."

If you want to learn more about different Web 2.0 tools from the ground up, our toolkit "Everything You Need to Know About Web 2.0" is the best place to start. This toolkit compiles all of our articles on blogs, wikis, RSS, social networking, and other Web 2.0 technologies and should provide you with a solid foundation for learning about these emerging tools.
