Audio can make a Web site more dynamic, effective, and engaging. In TechSoup's article Sound World, we'll introduce you to the basic concepts of digital audio, and provide links to resources and tutorials for recording, editing, and adding a variety of sound media to your site.

Has your organization used audio on its Web site? What format did you use? How did you train for it? Do you have any recommendations for recording or editing software? Did adding audio to your site have an effect? Share your feedback here.

What's worse than qhite text on a black background? Audio that has no purpose or controls.

Please remember that effective audio seldom includes background music! And that if you do put audio (all types) on your site, make sure that the vieweer has full control over it or you WILL alienate people very fast.

In full agreement with Tim's points here...

Any audio should, by default, be set to "off" on most Web sites. Leave it up to your visitors to decide if they want to hear your audio. Give them control over sound by including an "on/off" button, and make sure it can be accessed easily.
