Hi, I am trying to monitor my DOS based program accounting activity when it is run from Windows 98. I have tried a couple keyloggers but they only record Windows based activity and when the DOS program is run nothing is recorded. Can someone help me fix this?
Why not just sit next to the person using the program? - Even though this is your first post, I'm sure you understand that providing information on how to remotely access potentially confidential information entered into a financial and/or accounting program is not really the purpose of this forum...

Thnx Donc for the gracious reply. :/
The forum title says:

So I believe my question was software related and perhaps you might have asked me what my intentions were before you asked me why I don't just set next to the person. I find your response somewhat irrationally spontaneous, rude and condescending.
Interesting. I believe that's the first time I've ever heard anyone describe Don as irrationally spontaneous.
However we can only go by what we read, and your rather vague description of a situation involving the use of a keystroke logger is somewhat unusual and is highly suspect. My initial response to your post is about the same as Don's.
If you actually have a legitimate need, perhaps you could reword your request so that we can better understand your situation?

My apologies renegade42 if you found my reply condescending... In some defence, I am yet to see a legitimate request from a TechSoup first-time-poster asking about keyloggers. Invariably these requests (and we have seen quite a few over the years) are not in the spirit or ethos of TechSoup forums.
However as ENO suggests... If you can provide some clarification/justification as to why you need a keylogger to monitor the keystrokes of your own DOS accounting program, we may yet be able to help you or offer some alternatives.
Also, if you would like to introduce yourself and/or your NPO, please feel free to post an intro in the "Introduce Yourself" forum.
Best rgds, Don

For someone looking for a reply to a question, he got awfully defensive about it. Renegade, does your company have a policy that says that computer use could be monitored? If it does not, you have no right to put a keylogger on a user's computer. I can't think of any practical use for a keylogger in the business world. Good luck getting yours figured out.

If this is accounting software, it should have a built in audit trail that will record activity by user. If it doesn't have auditing built in, how do the accountants accept the financials, pass the annual audit or approve of the finances complying with GAP?

I agree with Dave, any good accounting software will have an auditing trail. I doubt the DOS-based system is fancy enough to have these features though, because it must be antiquated.
