Saying Goodbye to Apple, Google & Microsoft - essay on non-proprietary tools by Dan Gillmor
Why am I typing this on a laptop running GNU/Linux , the free software operating system, not an Apple or Windows machine? And why are my phones and tablets running a privacy-enhanced offshoot of Android called Cyanogenmod , not Apple’s iOS or standard Android? Because, first of all, I can get...

Hi Dave, and welcome to TechSoup! Based on what I've seen yes, Win 7, but I'm not an expert. Here's some info on upgrading from Vista to Win 7 . For your second question, I would see Win 7 systems requirements . Here are some TS community threads on the subject. I hope this helps!

Celebrate your cyber paranoia and check out Marc Goodman’s ‘Future Crimes’
Whoa! Nothing like a good dose of paranoia to get you in touch with your inner security crime fighter! I got wind of this book through a Facebook friend in the tech space - a leader in his field and someone I listen to for recommendations like this one. By no means a short read (400 pages) but Marc Goodman’s...

Microsoft slates critical Windows, IE fixes for next week
I just caught this via InfoWorld security channel today: Microsoft Thursday said it will release nine security updates next week, twice the number of last month, with fixes slated for Internet Explorer (IE), Windows, SharePoint Server, and Web app developer tools. Three of the nine were rated ‘critical...
RE: Support for Microsoft Security Essentials Ending 04/08/2014
I have upgraded our 6 PCs from XPPro to Win7Pro, and the process is pretty straightforward. (Yes, it requires a clean install, so backup everything.) Microsoft Security Essentials runs fine on Win7, with no noticeable performance issues.
Putting MS Access Database Online
I have a MS Access Database in Access 2010 that i would like to put up and make available through a web browser. How can i do this? What is the simplest path? It does have a lot of inner connects and queries.
Windows 7 Thin PC
We have hundreds of older single processor P4 desktops. Windows 7 Thin PC runs very well on these machines, actually better than XP. TechSoup does not currently offer Windows 7 Thin PC in its list of OS options. I'm sure we are not alone in needing an alternative between XP and Win 7/8 Pro. Help...
Support for Microsoft Security Essentials Ending 04/08/2014
Greetings Techsoup community, I received the message in the subject line this morning when the little blue Microsoft Security Essentials tent turned yellow in the lower right side of my computer screen. Now, a yellow warning alert pops up anytime a guest visits my site now stating that it may not...
I am intrigued by Office 365 and wonder if Microsoft has announced any pricing or plans for non profits.
Microsoft ForeFront User Access Gateway (UAG) and ForeFront UAG User CALs
It would be such a help if TechSoup had this product. The ForeFront UAG allows outside user to securely access internal servers. We would use it for mobile LYNC users. LYNC allows users to video conference, send IM's and email.
Wish List - Would like Techsoup offer Microsoft Office365 Cloud product suite
Although Office365 appears to be cost effective from Microsoft, the monthly fees X # of users adds up, so it would be excellent of the entire Office365 product suite would be offered and supported by Techsoup. Harrison Kyle Jones President & CTO Forty Plus of New York email@example.com
I have converted my previous free "Office for Small Business" to the "Office 365" on a trial which will expire 7/31/12. 365 offers several advantages, however, licenses are required. Our non-profit would love to see Tech Soup offer that. Thanks for what you do for us! Dan
Microsoft Office 2013
Does anyone know when Microsoft Office 2013 will be available on techsoup?
Re: want publisher for mac! PLEASE
Hi James, While I'm not exactly sure we have enough clout to convince Microsoft to add options to their software, I'm pleased you think we can help - will make sure our team working with Microsoft shares your wish here. All the best, Gayle
Microsoft VDA license
Hi there, What's the possibility for Microsoft to donate VDA licenses from Techsoup? They already offer SA with all the WIndows Software (Thank You MSFT!) but it would be nice if they could also offer VDA license as an option so we can use it for BYOD deployment. Cheers, CP
