If our non-profit uses a mobile hotspot to access the internet, is it secure? How does one protect the organization when accessing via a Mobile Beacon hotspot. I have limited knowledge and would like some input before ordering the hotspot. Thanks.
What I do is make sure I always have a VPN service when using public internet or a mobile hotspot. You might wanna look nto some that are great for mobile devices, like NordVPN, which I've been using for more than 4 years now. Read up on it, or look for other great options (on top of mind, ExpressVPN, TunnelBear and PureVPN, take your pick)
I would say using a mobile hotspot is better than a unsecure WiFi. This is because WiFi networks use lesser encryptions to secure the network while the telecommunication hotspot is better. Then again its not like hotspot is a secure solution; it's not! Hotspot servers can be penetrated as well from an experienced hacker. As for the companies security, it is definitely at stake. It's better to upgrade to a VPN service.
It will provide a better encryption for your companies security and remove any doubts for hacking
