On another group I'm on, someone asked:
Does anyone have any experience implementing a BYOD tool for a small activist group using Android?
Can anyone recommend a tool that would do the basics? (Allow separation between personal and work, encryption, remote wipe, location etc)
I'm assuming "BYOD" means "bring your own device"?
One of the responses was this:
Prey Project has been around for a long time, and evolved quite nicely into a sustainable venture. It is open-source, though they push you to their cloud offering:https://preyproject.com/https://github.com/prey
That responder also said:
One of the nice new options of Android 5 is that you can setup multiple accounts on one device. This is a cheap/free way to achieve that separation of data and permissions.
The Prey Project web site says "Prey lets you keep track of your laptop, phone and tablet whenever missing, whether you're in town or abroad. Open source, proven software with hundreds of documented recoveries all around the world."
By "Keep track of your" whatever, it means that it will tell you where it is - at what address it can be found? Which you would then give to a law enforcement agency? I'm a bit confused...
The web site also says "Use Prey to fully lock down your devices and delete your stored passwords, to ensure that no one will have access to your private stuff." That I don't need an explanation for - that sounds like a great tool.
Anyone out there using this, or any other similar product?

To me Prey looks more like "find your iphone" service that Apple provides on ios devices. If you need to protect/separate personal vs work applications, you might need some sort of Mobile Device Management (MDM) or Mobile Application Management (MAM). Remote wipe is just one of the features that MDM provides. I noticed that techsoup does not yet have a donor in this category. If there's sufficient interest from non-profits, it would be better to negotiate with any of the following ones
Has Tech Soup made any headway with MDM solutions since 2015??
We are also looking for MDM for non-profits for 2019.
XenMobile or Airwatch or ?
