Year Up’s mission is to prepare urban young adults aged 18-24 for life and work in our technology-driven society and to guide them toward successful and rewarding careers as well as higher education. Through a one-year, intensive training program, students receive a unique combination of technical skills, professional skills, paid internships known as apprenticeships, college credit and mentors.

In our seventh year of operations, Year Up serves more than 500 students a year at sites in Boston, Cambridge, Providence, Washington, D.C., and New York City. Position Overview:
The Data Coordinator will play a key role in the development of a leading edge, comprehensive data infrastructure for Year Up’s national operation. Reporting to the Director of Data Systems Development and Operations, the Data Coordinator will ensure the highest level of data integrity by monitoring data collection and use of the system while also designing and proposing changes and enhancements as necessary. Working with a dynamic cross-functional team, the Data Coordinator will actively participate in the ongoing design of the data system and will bring an analytical approach to trouble-shooting and problem-solving in addition to the interpersonal skills required to effectively train and support end users.

In keeping with Year Up’s values, the Data Coordinator may also interact with students as a group facilitator and advocate, participating in creating and sustaining a positive educational environment with trust among students, faculty and work site leaders.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the input of data into Year Up’s national data system
– Ensure that all sites are entering data in a consistent and timely manner
– Support staff in the use of the system
– Actively monitor data quality by developing audits and reports and clean data as required
• Design and develop comprehensive reports and dashboards essential for strategic decision-making and business operations, produce ad-hoc reports as requested
• Lead the process to survey, clean, and import legacy data into new data platform
• Contribute to the design process and assist in clarifying and documenting business rules
• Train staff on use of the database system including upgrades made to the platform
• Develop and maintain documentation and help materials for the database system


Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience managing data with database tools like MS Access, SQL, MySQL, or MS Excel
• Experience with Crystal Reports or comparable report writing tools

• Excellent attention to detail coupled with an aptitude for problem-solving

• Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to learn quickly through accessing a variety of resources, such as existing documentation and on-line resources
• Experience with a CRM solution such as Salesforce.com is preferred

• A passion for working with urban young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
