I still use GooglePlus because it helps so much with SEO of new blogs and web pages. But if GooglePlus has this issue, what's going on at, say, MySpace? And if you haven't checked out Topix lately, you should - especially if there is a Topix community set up for the town or city where you live - I know that in my hometown in Kentucky, it's a favorite place for some Internet-savvy school teachers to find out what some parents are *really* thinking... and I have seen some nonprofits discussed there in not-so-glowing terms.
