If I understand what Microsoft is saying, we cannot upgrade to 8.1 Pro if we have a copy of Windows 8 with a MAK. Will Techsoup have an upgrade available?
Only if Microsoft allows it...

The 8.1 version of the Windows OS is currently in its beta phase. Whether you can upgrade to it or not depends on if Microsoft decides to add it to the VLSC. To find out you can reach the Micorosft VLSC at 866-230-0560.

I think I am experiencing the same problem. Our nonprofit received a lovely new donated ASUS laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 8. In order for us to connect to our domain, however, we need Win 8 Pro. I purchased from TechSoup a license that I thought would allow me to do the upgrade but it just seems to have reinstalled Win 8. I contacted Microsoft and they said there is no upgrade key in the VLSC at this time. It seems like my only option is to spend $200 to buy Win 8 Pro upgrade. Is that correct? Thanks forum folks!
In order to go from a Home version of 8 to a Pro version of 8, your organization needs to request Windows 8.1 Get Genuine: www.techsoup.org/.../windows-8.1-pro-32-bit-–-get-genuine--L-47924--
Please keep in mind that eligible organizations may place only one request ever for Get Genuine products.
Thank you so much Negeen!
You are very welcome!
