Hi - I'm looking for a basic food pantry inventory system for a small food/clothing bank. Doesn't have to be anything extravigant. As a bonus, do you know any good client tracking systems that can work along with or even integrate with the inventory system for a small food bank organization?
You might want to look at my FREE food pantry software.
Unfortunately I am not aware of any of the 140+ food pantries using my food pantry software who have an automated inventory system. My food pantry software does not handle inventory. I know of one food pantry who tried using inventory software for a time and ultimately quit using it.
Free case management software for food pantries/emergency services 501(c)(3) organizations. See: http://webpages.charter.net/bobalston/bob1.htm
I am quite sure this is a little
late to make a difference to you and your non-profit but I am going to share
Your post caught my eye because I
believe our software FoodBank Manager will fit your needs; it is built to
handle very large organizations and the small Churches, Food Pantry’s and
Non-Profits and is completely customizable.
Check out my site at http://www.soxbox.co/. You can use it to track
Volunteers, Guests, Staff, also, food, clothing, lodging, gas vouchers,
dental checkups, flu shot programs, firewood... absolutely any goods or
services you may want to provide. Web based, login from anywhere, use any
platform, Ipads, Iphones, Laptops, PC's, Mac's etc... Look at the
Features http://www.soxbox.co/features/ and the Faq's
http://www.soxbox.co/faq/, there is a lot of information there. The price is
very reasonable; less than most monthly cell phone bills and the license is a
site license with unlimited users from that site.
Maybe this can still help you, I
hope it helps others too.

Our company, Food Pantry Solutions, has developed software to assist food pantries with their record keeping and reporting requirements.
Here is some helpful information about our software:
FoodStar is a reliable, easy-to-use software program to help Food Pantries manage their member list, food distribution and record keeping. It meets USDA requirements and can be used by both USDA and non-USDA food pantries. FoodStar can also use an optional electronic signature pad, so your food pantry can be completely PAPERLESS!
Check it out at www.foodpantrysolutions.com
I hope this helps!
Note: you have to take software recommendations with a very large grain of salt when they are coming from a person that works at the company selling that software!
I've written the most recent people who have commented on this thread, reminding them that they need to be transparent in making software recommendations here on TechSoup. For instance, "Here is a good client tracking program for food pantries" should have said, to meet the TechSoup community standards (#3 in particular), "I work for such-and-such company and here's details on our client tracking program for food pantries."

I am new to Techsoup. Did you ever get a basic food pantry inventory system?
Hi Scattering Resources 1,
Welcome! First can you you please fill out your community profile? Here's how to do that. It's great to have some background info with posts - at the very least to confirm that we're human (nothing against robots, though).
To answer your question, I don't think you're looking for a 'pantry inventory system' per se, but rather database software you can purpose for your needs (in this case, a pantry inventory system). This mom blogger gives some helpful context. Here's our product listing - you might take a look at Filemaker Pro, for instance - that's a popular one. To see other community threads, click the 'Community' tab on that page.
Good luck and let us know what you find!
