We are a German Shepherd Rescue, currently managing our dogs, Volunteers, and Adopters in Excel. We are looking for CRM Software that would allow us to track our available dogs, and eventually connect the dog to an Adopter. We also need the capability to attach files (vaccination records, etc.) to the dogs, and signed contracts to the Adopters.
Any thoughts or suggestions on Software?
I don't have a definite answer for you on this but I'm currently exploring Kindful. I've done several demos (with other CRMs) and I keep coming back to Kindful. They have a nice connection to Quick books and Emma/Mailchimp and overall can do much of what we are looking for which sounds similar to what you need to track. We are trying to get more infrastructure in place because, like you, we are in excel and it is inefficient. I wanted to respond though so that in case others with more experience in this space can give other options/recommendations.
Can you say more about the need to modify a database? That could mean adding new fields, or new codes, or custom reports, or entirely new data tables,or building workflows, or customizing (rather than configuring) the system to do things the developer didn't imagine, or...
Depending on how much customization you need, you might need to opt for a do-it-yourself approach. But I hope not -- that can be time-consuming, expensive, and risky.
There's a small industry of shelter management software. Here's a guide. In addition to the ones they list, I've come across Barrk and Vestafy (this is not an endorsement of either). Unless you need something truly custom (and have the budget and technical expertise for that), I would research vendors who specialize in shelter management to see if any can meet your top requirements without having to build your own system.
