Hello! I am a reference librarian that also deals with basic computer issues. Anything that is beyond me is forwarded onto the IT department for the technicians to handle.
Hi, Christie! What kind of "basic computer issues" do you deal with? I'd love to know!

Mainly minor issues like restarting computers when they stall out, change out all toners, and various small duties that are okay for staff, but not for patrons. I usually show patrons how to do minor things like the proper way to use a flash drive or how to login/logout of their emails and other membership-based sites so that they don't shut our computers down. Sometimes I have to rule over what is a "virus" and what is not. I also sit am called upon to sit at the computer while the real techs log in remotely and correct more major issues. I do a lot of tickets for troubleshooting and will follow the tech's directions to see if it can be solved that way. I do not do anything network wise or take any components apart.
That's about where I am as well when it comes to computer help. I was much more helpful 20 years ago, but now, the tech is so beyond me...
Welcome to the TechSoup community forum! Hopefully, you'll find the answers you need here when it comes to tech and computer help. Also, just as an FYI, we offer one-time IT help or managed IT services depending on your needs, which you can find here https://www.techsoup.org/services. I would also encourage attending our webinars and reading our blogs as we try to post helpful (and free) content there as well.
