It seems we've been using Microsoft Word way to long for creating SOPs. For example, we still resort to printing drafts and manually signing documents for approval. I think this process is dated. One (of many) drawbacks is that our Medical Director is required to travel to the Lab to sign a Policy before it can be approved.
I was wondering what applications and/or template are in use by this community for creating SOPs
Thanks is advance.
Re policy approval: Since your Medical Director seems to be on the move, you might consider a remote signature option (e.g. Adobe PDF), which in itself is pretty painless. You may need to expend additional hours and red tape if said requirement is institutionalized. In any event, here are a few tools for sharing files with distributed groups to look at. A secure remote desktop connection with field employees works wonders, when first considering any regulations of course. Which brings me to the next point, re software packages:If you’re a medical lab you have HIPAA and/or CLIA regulations to consider. To get you started, Idealware has some advice on how to choose HIPAA-compliant software. It's worth looking at SharePoint as an option. View TechSoup's SharePoint offerings and check out this resource I found offsite.
Any context you'd like to add? I hope my suggestions are on point!
