I want to ask you some personal questions: Do you have a secret crush on spreadsheets and CRMs but don't know how to use them? Been heartbroken and frustrated by dysfunctional databases? Baffled by the behavior of tables and interactive maps? We understand. Completely.
During the month of February, TechSoup is going to show you how to fall in LOVE with your data! Whether you have not yet met your dream data, are casually dating, or are currently struggling with your data relationship — we have the tools you can use to reignite or initiate your passion for data. We're hosting a series of data visualization webinars throughout the month that will put you in the know and let you take charge of your relationship. Sort of like tech speed dating.
Oh, what's data visualization? Sounds like it's only for the elite tech-savvy user, huh? Simply put, data visualization tools enable you to take data and transform it into useful and beautiful visual formats.
This transformed data can become an image gallery, interactive map, personalized dashboard, online story canvas, pivot table, contact database (CRM), and more. Don't let the terminology intimidate you — it's really not that tech-y!
Your first date is to bring your data to life with Microsoft's Power BI on January 28. Microsoft will show you how to maximize your organization's capacity to discover insights from your data — quickly and painlessly. Data is most meaningful when you can use it to determine actions that will improve your nonprofit or library. Jen Underwood from Microsoft will demonstrate how Power BI empowers anyone and everyone to gain insight into any data, any way, anywhere!
On February 3, you will try on Silk. No, not the expensive pajamas that require dry cleaning — but Silk for Nonprofits, the super suave place where you can publish your data online, beautifully! This FREE tool for nonprofits can easily turn your data into websites, impact maps, a story canvas, or a contact database.
Silk will show you how to create attention-grabbing stories and appealing images from your data, easily. Silk is for anyone and everyone — from the seasoned data cruncher to the inexperienced staff member.
Next, learn how to harness the power of data to tell your organization's story with Tableau on February 18. Join Tech Impact's Data Analyst & Storyteller, Jordan McCarthy, to learn how to use Tableau to collect data in more meaningful ways and understand the science behind data analysis. Jordan will show you easy tips to maneuver through this data analytics tool to gain a better understanding of your nonprofit or library's data.
Finally, get back to basics with Excel on March 31. During this 90-minute interactive webinar, beginners can learn how to manipulate data by sorting, filtering, applying simple formulas, and more. We will review a few of our favorite basic Microsoft Excel formulas and shortcuts, as well as introduce the near-magical power of pivot tables. We will provide you with sample data and step-by-step instructions for practice. You bring the chocolate and flowers.
