Web analytics on a tablet

Your website might look fabulous, but do you know if people are actually visiting it? Web analytics can help reveal how much traffic your site is getting and how people are finding it. You can also use analytics to see how long people are staying on your site and which pages are the most popular. There are also analytics tools that look at your social media presence, such as how many people are visiting your site from Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Google Analytics is the most popular web analytics tools out there due to its easy-to-access web interface and fairly straightforward features. But are you missing out on some of the most useful features in Analytics?  Thankfully, there are quite a few free resources out there, some of which are tailored toward nonprofits.

Tutorials and Webinars

  • Google Analytics Academy offers a free three-week course called Digital Analytics Fundamentals. It's designed for beginner to intermediate users of Google Analytics. The lessons include instructional videos along with an activity so you can put your new skills to the test. You can complete the courses at your own pace during the three-week time period.
  • Google also has a series of lessons designed to help you prepare for the Google Analytics Individual Qualification test. Even if you're not planning on taking this test, these videos can help you sharpen your Analytics skills.
  • TechSoup donor partner GiftWorks often has free webinars on Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Google Analytics, and more. Be sure to bookmark the GiftWorks events page for future events.
  • You can find many Google Analytics webinars and tutorials on YouTube, but here's one especially tailored toward nonprofits.
