Exciting things are happening at TechSoup's Refurbished Computer Initiative (RCI) program, which brings donated and discounted refurbished computer equipment to nonprofits and libraries while creating environmentally-friendly alternatives to disposing of used electronic hardware. We’ve updated our catalog with five more donated computer offers, two donated servers, and for the first time, donated office printers.
All hardware offered by our RCI program has undergone thorough testing, repair, and restoration, and includes a 90-day warranty, and all desktops and laptops come with a Microsoft Professional operating system already installed – either Windows XP or Windows 7.
Plus, our refurbished computers now come with Microsoft Office 2007 Basic (RCI computers previously featured Office 2003). This means you just need to unpack, plug in, start up, and you’re ready to go. Note that PowerPoint is not included as part of the Office 2007 Basic package, but is available as a separate donation through our Microsoft Software Donation Program.
Also, some of our newer computer offerings come with donated copies of Norton AntiVirus 2012 already installed, which has been generously provided by our partners at Symantec. Please be sure you read each product description carefully to see what’s included.
To help organizations navigate our increasingly-growing catalog of equipment, and choose the products that best fit their needs, we’ve also organized our refurbished computers into one of three categories:
Low-tier computers are intended for simple tasks such as web browsing, word processing, creating basic spreadsheets, and writing emails. They have lower processor speeds and smaller storage capacities.
Mid-tier computers can perform all the same tasks as low-tier equipment, and are better equipped for multi-tasking and supporting more complex tasks like basic image-editing and creating presentations. They have average processor speeds and storage capacities.
High-tier computers can perform all the same tasks as low- and mid-tier equipment, and can handle more resource-intensive tasks such as web publishing, advanced image-editing, and video editing. They have more powerful processors and greater storage capacity, and are more suited for faster-paced work environments.
As with many refurbished computer programs, RCI categorizes equipment based on its condition:
All refurbished equipment available through TechSoup is Condition A, unless Condition B is specified in the product name.
The mid-tier refurbished computers below are well-suited for running standard office applications, while the high-tier ones are designed to handle more resource-intensive tasks.
